As a result of very heavy rains and flooding in
Antigua and in the islands in the north of the
region due to the presence of Hurricane Omar, LIAT,
has issued a further update for all passengers on
their flights.
As of this
morning (October 16th) the VC Bird
International Airport in Antigua is presently
closed. This closure has now affected all of the
company’s operations out of Antigua which include
both north and south bound flights from that island.
CEO Mark Darby
has confirmed that there are a limited number of
flights operating out of Barbados servicing the
southern islands of the region.
It is expected
that the airport in Antigua will be open for limited
operations by early afternoon but a further update
will have to be issued at that time when it is
anticipated that the weather will clear.
LIAT
apologises for any inconvenience these cancellations
have caused to travellers but assures that the
safety of their passengers and crew always comes
first.
