Seven-month girl dies after swallowing kerosene
Date Posted: May 06, 2008.

The Antigua Sun has  reported the very sad death of a baby girl - seven months old,   after allegedly being given kerosene to drink.
Notwithstanding the marked difference in the scent of  the volatile hydrocarbon and that of water, the report says that the child's 52-year-old god father may have taken an Oasis bottle from atop a refrigerator believing it contained water. He then allegedly  poured the liquid into the child's bottle, to give her to drink in an apparent attempt to help ease discomfort caused by a cough she had developed.

The child was subsequently hospitalized for about four days before passing. She had been staying with the god parents while her parents were away.

The 52-year-old man is reportedly in police custody assisting with investigations into the matter.
