A hairline fracture to the groin will force Chris Gayle to
miss the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) season, but he
hopes to be fit in time for the West Indies' first Test
match against Australia, scheduled to start in Jamaica on
Thursday 22, May. Speaking in an interview on Tuesday with
IPL commentators, the Jamaican seemed in good spirit but
expressed some disappointment at his unavailability for the
ongoing series.
The West Indies captain was advised to have surgery after
visiting a Kolkata private hospital and is awaiting
permission from the West Indies board to go ahead with the
procedure. The Kolkata Knight Riders, who presented a $800,
000 bid for for his contract, are yet to benefit from
his services.
Australia, is scheduled to play a three Test,. five ODI
series in the Caribbean between May and July. It has been
confirmed that Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dwayne Bravo
and Shivnarine Chanderpaul who are currently in India for
the IPL, will return to the West Indies four days
before the first Test. "Our arrangement with the IPL
is that the players would be back for the (Digicel home)
series." the West Indies Cricket Board CEO Dr Donald Peters
told the Trinidad Express.
