Bounty
Killer and Mavado Banned by Guyana.
Date Posted: April 29, 2008.
Guyana's Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee announced
on Monday that Jamaican dancehall artistes Bounty Killer and
Mavado have been banned from entering Guyana.
Bounty Killer had a highly controversial performance in
Guyana two weekends ago (Wildfire Productions) while Mavado
(Ward Entertainment) was slated to perform in Linden this
weekend. Mavado was scheduled to perform during the Linden
Town Week celebrations alongside Lady Saw.
Minister Rohee said the two artistes were banned because of
"security and other concerns".
Both artistes are widely known for aggressive gun lyrics.
During his abbreviated performance (there were three power
outages)at the National Park Bounty Killer had,
unsurprisingly, called for the killing of all gays and when
he was introduced the deejay called for all bad man from
Buxton and Agricola to represent as the five star general
made his way on stage.
We agree that both artiste should be banned from appearing
in Guyana but what is the point of banning them but allowing
their music to be played widespread? There should be an
accompanying ban on the sale, public playing (including
radio and television) and distribution of all their music.
