West
Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has become the fourth
regional player to to sign up for the rich Twenty20 Indian
Premier League (IPL) currently underway. Bravo left his
native Trinidad on Saturday to take up his contract for an
undisclosed sum with the Mumbai Indians.
Top players in the Mumbai Indians’ squad include India's
Sachin Tendulkar, former Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya,
Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, former South Africa
captain Shaun Pollock, and Sri Lanka’s slinging fast bowler
Lasith Malinga. Bravo replaces the latter in the list, who
is unavailable due to injury.
According to CMC, "Bravo will only be available for a few
weeks in the IPL since he is committed to representing West
Indies against Australia in the Caribbean next month, but
Mumbai Indians officials are satisfied that they will have a
significant input from the athletic 24-year-old."
Bravo and Tendulkar, did not play in Sunday's encounter
between the Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers of
Banglaore featuring West Indian mainstay Shivnarine
Chanderpaul. Chanderpaul looked energized in the field and
scored a fiery 16, as Bangalore won the exciting game in the
final over. Mumbai posted 165 and the Bangalore
Challengers replied with 166 for 5. |
