Desperate
actions in Trinidad on the heels of a price hike on flour
Date Posted: April 04, 2008.
Flour and rice have been "wiped" off the Supermarket shelves
in Trinidad this week because of panic-buying after National
Flour Mills advised of an impending price increase,
according to the Trinidad Guardian.
The extent of the panic played out on the streets on
Thursday as a delivery truck loaded with bags of flour and
caught in traffic was set upon by "scores of men" who
announced a robbery. The truck was robbed of all of its
flour. Police soon after conducted a search of the
residential area and managed to retrieve the suspects and
some of the flour.
The Guardian said that up to late on Thursday no charges had
been laid.
