Female condom as a tool in the fight against
HIV is being promoted in Montserrat.
A donation
of one thousand of these condoms from the
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), is
now available for public use.
HIV & AIDS Coordinator Anjella Skerritt in
supporting this promotion noted that since
women can insert the condoms themselves, they
give women more control over their sexual and
reproductive lives by helping to prevent sexually
transmitted infections like HIV and allowing
users to plan their pregnancies.
This is the first time these condoms have been
generally available in Montserrat.
Unlike other family planning methods, both the
female and male condoms, if used correctly, can
prevent HIV and STIs as well as pregnancy.
