January 27, 2008:
Stanford 2020 2008, begun Saturday at the Stanford
Cricket grounds in Antigua before a high energy crowd of
approximately 6000.
St. Lucia, one of the four professional
teams in the tournament, came up against a much weaker
Cayman Island team. Batting first, St. Lucia managed 134 for 8 from their 20 overs. In response, the Cayman Islands never really got
going, managing to score only 88 for 8 from their 20 overs.
St. Lucia now goes on to play Trinidad on February 2nd.
Overall the game lacked the typical batting luster of
2020 cricket with far more dot balls (scoreless deliveries)
being bowled than what any fan of the shorter form of the
game would want to see.
Far more exciting cricket should follow over the next 4
weeks.
