Anticipated Stanford 20/20 Starts Today |

Coolidge, Antigua: The Stanford Cricket Ground was
buzzing on Friday as the last preparations were made for the
much-anticipated 2008 Stanford 20/20 Tournament which
begins, Saturday, 26 January. The day before the big event
the 20 captains gathered for a pow-wow with the 14 cricket
legends, and dinner with Sir Allen Stanford while members of
the media also had the opportunity to spend time with the
legends and tour the recently upgraded Stanford Cricket
Ground.
The captains flew in to participate in the Tournament’s
opening ceremony where they will be introduced to the fans
in a captains’ parade. The short visit was jam-packed with
activities for the skippers including a motivational session
and photos with the legends, an informational talk with the
Stanford 20/20 event management team and a formal dinner
with Sir Allen and the legends at The Pavilion Restaurant. |

The media had the
opportunity to interview the legends and the captains and
tour the new facilities that have been constructed since the
2006 Tournament which include an entirely new practice
facility with five netted pitches; state of the art
automated bowling machines; three modern rolled clay
pitches; two artificial pitches utilizing the latest
synthetic sports surfacing; expanded players’ pavilions
which are double the previous size and outfitted with locker
rooms, showers and other state of the art amenities geared
to increasing player comfort; and two custom built trailers
housing a fully air conditioned, comfortable washroom and a
food and beverage bar.
All systems are go for a fantastic opening ceremony and an
exciting match,” said Stanford 20/20 Event Director Rhonda
Kelly. “All we need now is our loyal Stanford 20/20 fans to
come out and enjoy the party.”
The party includes music by Chickie, a performance by Beenie
Man, a pyrotechnic display and the match between the St.
Lucia Stanford 20/20 Professional Team and Cayman Islands.
Gates open at 4:00pm.
