December 6, 2007: A truly barbaric scene
played out at a housing complex in Claredon, Jamaica on
Tuesday when gun wielding thugs kicked down the doors of two
homes and pelted their five
occupants with bullets. The gunmen reportedly
broke into one
residence shortly before 1:00am bearing high-powered rifles
and handguns and killed its 38-year-old male occupant
and his 41-year-old common law wife. They then went
to the home next door and repeated
the carnage on
its three occupants ages, 22, 41
and 48.
A 17-year-old, daughter of the
female killed in the first home, was dragged from the home,
kidnapped, raped and then released.
According to the Jamaica Observer, a police officer
described the horrific scene as follows: "The boy
them deal with them bad," the officer said. "Just to see the
bodies laying in the house made my blood run cold,"
Police believe the attack may have
been gang related.
To-date a mind numbing 1,442
homicides have occurred in Jamaica, with at least 47
occurring in the past week. In Clarendon specifically,
over 113 persons have been killed in 2007.
