Race too close to call in Trinidad & Tobago
November 5, 2007: Citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, head to the polls on Monday in a race that according to several sources, is too close to call for the 41 seats up for grabs in the Republic.

The incumbent People’s National Movement (PNM) led by Patrick Manning is being challenged by the United National Congress Alliance (UNC-A) led jointly by former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday and businessman Jack Warner and the Congress of the People (COP) led by former UNC political leader Winston Dookeran.

According to a recent poll performed by the North American Caribbean Teachers Association (NACTA) the PNM is projected to win 16 to 27 seats, the UNC-A 14 to 22 or 24 seats and the COP, none. The uncertainty arises because 11 of the seats are too close to call, all having the likelihood of going to either the PNM or opposition UNC-A.

According to T&T's Newsday, Elections and Boundaries Commission’s (EBC) Research Officer Neisha Ali, on Friday, indicated that close to 5000 more women than men are likely to cast their vote. She also confirmed that  990,351 persons were eligible to cast ballots in 1,483 polling stations for 130 candidates who include five independents.
