November 1, 2007: Late on Wednesday, the North Western
Bahamas including the Capital Nassau, was put on Hurricane
watch as meandering Tropical Storm Noel, strengthened to
60MPH just north of the coast of Cuba.

Noel stalled for most of Tuesday and Wednesday over Cuba,
after leaving at least 60 people dead across Hispaniola from
torrential rains.
By mid-afternoon on Wednesday, Residents of the Central
Bahamas were reporting serious flooding in the islands of
Long Island, Exuma and others as the highly skewed North
Eastern quadrant of Noel pounded the islands with water.
By 5:00pm on Wednesday the persistent rains had reached as
far north as Nassau where residents have been playing a
waiting game in the Tropical Storm warning zone since
Tuesday.
Businesses, Government Offices and Government Schools are
expected to remain closed for the third consecutive day on
Thursday and residents are having to deal with the late
alert that rather than a weak Tropical Storm they may be
facing a Hurricane by mid-afternoon.
