At least 31
dead in Haiti from persistent rain over the Western
Caribbean. |

2007: Officials in Haiti reported on Friday that at 23
people in one village were killed
as a result of flooding triggered by persistent rains over
the western Caribbean.
The deaths occurred in a Cabaret, a mountain village 19
miles north of the Capital, Port-au-Prince. They
brought the total killed in
the flood prone, deforested, impoverished nation to 31
from recent unstable weather.
Floods have also lashed neighbors Jamaica and Cuba where
evacuations have had to be launched in low lying areas.
