| September 20,
2007: Antigua's murder toll for 2007, this week
matched the toll of 13 in 2006 when a 34-year old man was
shot dead "execution" style.
The victim was reportedly shot as a many as 8 times in
the lower back between 3:00am and 4:00am in the morning by an
assailant in a hooded shirt. Residents who heard shots at
about 3:00am did not venture out to investigate until almost
1 hour later.
Residents familiar with the victim described him as a
"known drug and alcohol abuser"
who had not held down a job for some time and apparently
squatted in different areas. He was described by one police
officer as “known to police and very well known to the
court.”
Speculation surrounding the reason
for his death vary from an
association with unsavory characters to deliberate execution
for witnessing events not meant to be seen.
Several men were questioned by police and two were
held in relation to the murder. |
