September 19, 2007: Official police statistics
released Tuesday indicate a 14.5 % increase in the number of
murders through the first 8 months of the year in Jamaica
when compared to 2006. In August in particular there were
125 homicides, 31% more than the same month last year. Of
those killed last month 15 were females, five children and
one a policeman. The gruesome figures show that 968
persons were murdered during the first eight months of the
year compared to 845 for the corresponding period last year. |
