| Dominica has
reported an overall decrease in crime so far for 2007 when
compared to 2006 and 2005.
With just over 3 months left in the year the Chief of
Police Matthias Lestrade reported on Monday that there has
been 3 murders so far this year, compared to 8 in 2005 and 5
in 2006.
The police chief said there were also significant reductions
in reported cases of rape, indecent assault and robbery.
Despite the reduction in the latter the Chief stated that
incidents of burglary remained the main area of concern for
the police
“There were 1102 reported burglaries in 2005, last year
there were 1106 and after eight months of this year we have
recorded 647 burglary cases,” Lestrade reported.
The Commissioner’s comments came at the start of Police Week
in Dominica.
