September 13, 2007: The West Indies have suffered yet another humiliation, this time at the hands
of Bangladesh who eliminated the regional side via a comprehensive six-wicket
victory at the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa on Thursday.
The start of the game was delayed by an hour due to an
over-watered damp
pitch from the ground authority and much to the delight of Bangladesh, they won the toss and
could put the West
Indians in to bat.
Batting first, the West Indies managed to score 164 but only after a brutal
29 from seven balls from Dwayne Smith in the closing overs. Smith smacked
four sixes and one four before he was bowled off the last delivery of the
innings.
In response Bangladesh scored 165/4 with 12 balls to spare, thanks to a 27
ball 61 from Ashraful and a 49 ball 62 from Ahmed who remained unbeaten at the
end.
This lost eliminated West Indies since they also lost the opening match of
the competition on Tuesday, when hosts South Africa crushed them by eight
wickets.
