King was officially sworn in as Prime Minister of St. Lucia
in a subdued ceremony held in Castries on Sunday. King
replaces the late Sir John Compton, the heralded
"Father of the Nation" who died Friday after a prolonged
illnessGovernor General Dame Pearlette Louisy presided
over the ceremony that was attended by members of Cabinet
and parliament as well as other Government officials and
King's family.
It has been reported that the decision for King to head
the Government was unanimous by elected members (10) of the
ruling party who had been
meeting since the passing of Sir Compton. The meeting was
said to be heated at some points with some elected members
requesting Cabinet posts in exchange for their support of
the new Prime Minister
