September 3, 2007: Over one million Jamaicans are
eligible to go to the polls on Monday to vote in the
country's 15th General Election since Universal Adult
Suffrage in 1944. Some 3000 election day workers are on hand
to help deal with any eventualities according to Director of
Elections, Danville Walker. It is expected that results of
the vote will be known by 9 o'clock Monday evening.
A seven member group of Caricom Observers are also in
Jamaica to keep a close eye on the process. They are led by
the Chairman of Antigua and Barbuda's Election Commission,
Gerrald Watt. The group will observe and assess the outcome
of the elections and the immediate impact of the poll on the
social and political environment. |
