August, 29, 2007: Jamaica's Veronica Campbell created history on the third day of competition
at the 11th edition of the world championships in Osaka, Japan by
becoming the first Jamaican across both genders to win the world 100 metres at
the event.
The highly contested event was a photo-finish between Campbell and defending
Champion American Lauryn Williams both of whom were timed at 11.01 seconds.
Carmelita Jeter was credited with 11.02 seconds upsetting pre-race favourite,
fellow American, Torri Edwards - the 2003 title holder.
