St. Thomas ROCKED de TEMPO  - post concert report

June 22, 2007: Rock City, St. Thomas ROCKED de Tempo when the Caribbean’s premier entertainment network came to town. On Saturday night June 9, 2007 Tempo held a blow out concert for fans at Lionel Roberts Stadium.  Approximately ten thousand people from all over the Caribbean and the world were treated to powerhouse performances by a diverse group of Caribbean artists -- from reggae to soca, to dancehall to steel pan.

Headliners Shurwayne Winchester and Shaggy sent the audience into a frenzy with their high impact performances, each sending an hour of unstoppable energy out into the crowd.  The evening began with a very special “Badness Outta Style” performance by the Rising Stars Youth Steel Orchestra, an organization that teaches at-risk youth how to play steel pan in an environment that fosters and encourages discipline, scholarship and ambition.  Other local artists included the highly popular Pressure, Red Eye Band featuring Abja, Cool Sessions Brass, and P’Your Passion, all of whom were cheered on by their fellow St. Thomians.  Also turning out flawless performances in this star-studded event were Maxi Priest, and the Jamaican Empresses Tessanne Chin and Etana.  Later, Peter Ram, joined Shurwayne Winchester on stage as a surprise artist to wild applause from the crowd, with his smash hit "Woman by my Side".  Fans also had the chance to see their favorite Tempo personalities up-close - Empress Jeanille Bonterre, Hector Lincoln, Island Girl Anushca, Jah Bami and of course “Mr. Tempo” himself, Frederick A. Morton Jr. appeared throughout the evening’s festivities.  Tempo truly proved to be the extraordinary cultural force that it is as concert goers not only expressed their love for Tempo through their attendance,  but also stood firm through a 20 minute downpour to ROCK de TEMPO!  For exclusive Rock de Tempo photos log on to gottempo.com.
