British Recruit is new top cop in St. Lucia |

John Broughton , a
UK officer recruited in 2006 as a Senior Assistant
Commissioner of Police in St. Lucia has been promoted to Police Commissioner.
The surprise promotion to "top cop" came after current Police Commissioner Ausbert Regis was sent on leave along with two other senior officers.
The
official word according to national security minister, Keith Mondesir, is
that the three had accumulate leave which they were now being asked to
take.
Mr Broughton is among 10 retired British officers who were recruited into the
St. Lucia police force to reinforce their crime fighting efforts. Led by
Broughton they are credited with driving down violent crime by 5% and homicides
by 20%.
According to Broughton, this promotion
was unexpected when he arrived in
Saint Lucia 18 months ago. The newly minted Commissioner says he intends to leave the
Police Force a changed unit when his contract ends in November 2008. |
