20, 2007: Prime Minister Owen Arthur of Barbados
and his wife Julie, suffered the profoundly sad loss of their
new born baby, Danielle, on Friday May 18 2007. She had been
born several months prematurely
just 24 hours earlier and would have been their second
child.
A visibly shaken Prime Minister spoke with reporters
shortly after collecting his wife who was discharged from
the hospital around midday on Friday.
“We wish to thank the entire public for the very generous
expressions of condolence. Our daughter Danielle was born
prematurely and she died this morning. A tremendous loss to
the family. I suppose it shows how common is our humanity
and our vulnerability. We pray now to get a little privacy
and give her a Christian burial sometime early next week.
