New reality for 21 Century Bahamas - Former Prime Minister and family under police guard.

May 19, 2007: The Royal Bahamian Police force has ramped up security at the home of former Prime Minister Perry Christie after unknown gunmen, shot at the home of Christie's mother-in-law earlier this week.

Christie and family reside in an upscale Cable Beach residential area far removed from crime ridden neighborhoods in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas.

After 5 years in office Christie's PLP was defeated at the polls in May elections. The elections were, by votes cast, extremely close with  a virtual split of the electorate. Several constituencies consisting of thousands of voters were won by less than one hundred votes.
