Association
of Caribbean States (ACS) welcomes French Librarians |
Port of Spain (May 11, 2007) – The Secretariat of the
Association of Caribbean States (ACS) opened its doors last
week, on May 2, to a group of library professionals from
libraries and media centres in Guadeloupe and Martinique,
Lead by Mrs. Béa Bazile, Director of the Departmental
Library in Prêt, Guadeloupe, the group was on its final day
of a study tour to Trinidad and Tobago. Having visited a
number of local libraries and archival facilities over the
preceding days, the library experts concluded their
week-long visit with a stop at the ACS Secretariat. |

The group, numbering close to thirty delegates, viewed a
presentation on the history and current activities of the
organisation and also received a number of books and other
resources for their local libraries. They in turn donated
several books, maps and other audio-visual materials to the
Secretariat’s collection of information on its membership.

The Association of Caribbean States is the organization for
consultation, cooperation and concerted action in trade,
transport, sustainable tourism and natural disasters in the
Greater Caribbean. Its Member States are Antigua & Barbuda,
The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba,
Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada,
Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Jamaica,
Nicaragua, Panama, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent
& the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela.
Its Associate Members are Aruba, France on behalf of French
Guiana, Guadeloupe, and Martinique, and the Netherlands
Antilles.
