FINALLY GIVES APOLOGY FOR DRY HUMPING TEEN - DAYS AFTER
LOSING LUCRATIVE SPONSORSHIP DEAL.
May 10, 2007: Akon, the very popular, Senegalese
R&B/Hip-Hop artist has finally apologised for his
inexcusable dry humping of a 15 year old at the Zen
nightclub in Trinidad one month ago. The apology comes one
week after US telecoms giant Verizon Wireless ended a
sponsorship partnership with the entertainer reportedly
because of the incident which continues to be publicized
widely on the internet.
The video of the act was originally posted on Youtube but it was pulled
after it was revealed that his victim was only 15. By that
time however, copies of the video had appeared on several
forums and websites.
The apology : "I want to sincerely apologise for the
embarrassment and any pain I've caused to the young woman
who joined me onstage, her family and the Trinidad community
for the events at my concert," Akon Said.
"It was never my intention to embarrass or take advantage of
my fans in any way, especially those under the age of 18.
That is why we tried to make sure that the club did not
admit anyone under 18 in the audience. Somehow, that
standard was not met."
