Caribbean countries among the 20 fattest in the world. |
May 4, 2007: Dominica, Barbados and Trinidad&Tobago have been rated as
having the 11th, 12th and 20th
fattest people in the world.
According to the most recent estimates by the World Health
Organisation (WHO), 71% of Dominicans, 70% of
Barbadians and 68% of Trinidadians are overweight. The
organisation estimates that there are currently 1.6 billion
overweight adults in the world, a number which is projected
to grow by 40% over the next 10 years.
Listed below are the percentage of overweight adults
aged 15 and over in the top 100 fattest countries . These
are individuals who have individual body mass indexes, which
measures weight relative to height, greater than or equal to
25. Obese is defined as having a BMI greater than or equal
to 30.
