Cricket Hall of Fame to Celebrate New Inductees This Weekend

The late Sir Clyde Walcott and Reverend Wes Hall will be inducted into the Sticky Wicket West Indies Cricket Hall of Fame this weekend, and a huge fete, including live entertainment and a fireworks display, has been planned to honour them.

The induction ceremony will take place at the Stanford Cricket Ground on Sunday, 6 May at 5:30pm followed by a concert featuring Antigua’s very own Red Hot Flames, David Rudder, Destra and Grammy-award winner Sean Paul, and culminating with a dazzling fireworks display.

The VIP list for the celebration reads like the Who’s Who of cricket with such legends as Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Vivian Richards, Courtney Walsh, Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Desmond Haynes, Gordon Greenidge, Curtly Ambrose and Richie Richardson expected to be in attendance.  In addition the families of the past and new inductees will be on hand, including the families of the late Malcolm Marshall and George Headley.

About the Sticky Wicket West Indies Cricket Hall of Fame

The Sticky Wicket West Indies Cricket Hall of Fame was created by Antiguan financier Sir Allen Stanford in 2003 as a way to pay tribute to the outstanding contributions to cricket that have been made by individuals over the years.  Persons nominated must have scored over 1000 runs or taken over 100 wickets at first class level at a minimum. There are also special nominees, other significant cricket personalities who do not meet the above two criteria but have made tremendous contributions towards the development of cricket within the region through work with local cricketers, participation on local cricket associations and promotion of West Indies cricket through their association with world cricket.  These nominees can include umpires, cricket administrators and cricket media/photographers that have provided noteworthy service to West Indies Cricket for more than ten years.

New inductees are installed every two years amid much pomp and circumstance.  The first group of inductees in 2003 was Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Garfield Sobers, George Headley, Malcolm Marshall, Clive Lloyd, Lance Gibbs, Michael Holding, Andy Roberts, Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose and Brian Lara.  Sir Frank Worrell and Ridley Jacobs were inducted in 2005.
