April 19, 2007: Figures published in St. Maarten
reveal that in Island Council elections scheduled for
April 20th, 2007, foreign born voters are equal to voters
of Antillean birth.

Chart
of eligible voters by birth.
The numbers are even more startling if you consider that
"Antillean" represents more than the number actually born in
St. Maarten, who in 2006 were a mere 26.5% of eligible
voters. The 2007 data excludes numbers on these local
persons but they do show that only 50.2% of the
19,151 eligible voters were born in the wider Netherlands
Antilles.
The remaining 49.8% of eligible voters are "global" in
origin as shown below.
1,461 The Dominican Republic
1,180 French Origin - St. Martin
1,170 The Netherlands
1,035 St. Kitts & Nevis
