Port of Spain (April 12, 2007) - The Secretary
General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), Dr.
Rubén Silié Valdez, received a courtesy call from the
Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, Mr. Francisco
Laínez Rivas, on April 10, 2007, at the ACS Secretariat in
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Minister Laínez was on
official mission to Trinidad and Tobago, and took the
opportunity to meet with Secretary General Silié in an
effort to further deepen ties between the Association and El
Salvador, an ACS Member State. Also participating in the
meeting were El Salvador's Ambassador to Trinidad and
Tobago, His Excellency Carlos Mauricio Pineda Cruz and ACS
Political Adviser, Dr. Watson Denis. The Minister
underscored El Salvador's willingness to support the ACS in
achieving its goals of regional integration, working through
the areas of Trade, Transport, Sustainable Tourism and
Natural Disasters and expressed great interest in the
projects being undertaken by the organisation. He took
special note of developments in the ACS Multidestination
Tourism programme, especially, he said, since Central
America was currently working on the implementation of a
similar plan. El Salvador's recently established Embassy in
Port of Spain emphasises that country's efforts to
strengthen ties with the Greater Caribbean region, and in
particular with CARICOM nations, and Minister Laínez was
fervent in his meeting with the Secretary General, and later
with the Secretariat staff, that the Association could count
on El Salvador and its resident Ambassador to Trinidad and
Tobago, to support the organisation's work towards advancing
the regional cooperation and integration process. |
