February, 22,07: Warrington Phillips (left), a well known former Nevisian and Leeward Islands cricketer has been charged with the murder of his 27 year old wife of four years, Shermelle Phillips. Mrs. Phillips became Nevis's first murder of the year two nights after Valentines, when she was found in her car with her throat slashed.

The 38 year old former cricketer was arrested in Nevis on Feb 21, and taken under police escort to the twin nation's main prison in Basseterre St. Kitts

Keith ‘King Dis ‘N Dat’ Scarborough (right), the father of the deceased, informed local media that he learnt of his daughter's murder a mere 45min after she had told him by telephone that she was going out to a dinner party at the Four Seasons Resort.

Initial reports from Nevis indicated that the now charged husband, had fainted and had to be treated at the Hospital when he received news of his wife's murder. The reports also indicated that the couple were living apart for the past few months.

According to the WICB website, Phillips, first-class cricket career spanned 1990 to 2000 during which period he played 43 matches and captured 148 wickets with his orthodox left-arm spin at 25.52 apiece, with best bowling figures of eight for 92. He last played for Nevis in two 20/20 matches against Stanford champions Guyana at Grove Park last September.
