Former Leeward Island's Cricketer Charged with murder.
February,
22,07: Warrington Phillips (left), a well known former Nevisian and Leeward Islands cricketer has been
charged with the murder of his 27 year old wife of four years, Shermelle
Phillips. Mrs. Phillips became Nevis's first murder of the year two nights after
Valentines, when she was found in her car with her throat slashed.
The 38 year old former cricketer was arrested in Nevis on Feb 21, and taken under police
escort to the twin nation's main prison in Basseterre St. Kitts

(right), the father of the deceased, informed
local media that he learnt of his daughter's murder a mere 45min after she had
told him by telephone that she was going out to a dinner party at the Four
Seasons Resort.
Initial reports from Nevis indicated that the now charged husband, had fainted and had to be
treated at the Hospital when he received news of his wife's murder. The reports
also indicated that the couple were living apart for the past few months.
According to the WICB website, Phillips, first-class cricket career spanned 1990
to 2000 during which period he played 43 matches and captured 148 wickets with
his orthodox left-arm spin at 25.52 apiece, with best bowling figures of eight
for 92. He last played for Nevis in two 20/20 matches against Stanford champions
Guyana at Grove Park last September.
