India completely dominated West Indies in the 4th ODI -
LARA Admits VADODARA, India – While speaking with the media after the fourth One Day International against India West Indies captain Brian Lara was rather frank in conceding that his team was outplayed and completely dominated. Following are excerpts from his responses: On the decision to bat first: There was nothing wrong with the decision to field first. I thought India batted pretty well and things didn't work out for us in the first half of the game. As long as they lay a foundation the likes (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni and (Sachin) Tendulkar at the end are always going to accelerate the score to something very special so again we started poorly. We didn't put the ball in the right areas, (Robin) Utthappa was able to get India off to a very good start in excess of six runs an over. To start with that, it didn't put any pressure at all on the guys to come and they batted quite comfortably and set themselves up for something big. They just got too many runs and we in turn, when we got a chance, lost too many wickets. On Sachin Tendulkar's innings: Another very good innings, we all know what he is capable of. I am not surprised, maybe you are but he is capable of producing an innings such as that ever so often. On the manner of his own dismissal: These things happen, it's the first time I've been out like that. It's not a great way to leave the stage in India but that's unfortunate and that's what sports is all about. It's glorious uncertainties. On whether it was complete domination by India and a lack of fight by the Windies: I think it was complete domination but I won't say it was a lack of fight. I thought that India played much better than we did today and they deserved to win. Their performance was outstanding with the bat and in the field as well, when you look at Yuvraj Singh who did not have an opportunity to bat, taking two spectacular catches so all credit must go to India but I wouldn't fault my guys for not having the enthusiasm or the fight. We came here knowing exactly what this match meant to us and we were outplayed. |
