(The, Valley Anguilla )
Approximately 25 nests of Cattle Egrets - also known as
Cattle Gaulins, found in The Quarter, Anguilla, show the
consideration of the bird as a non-breeding resident of the
island to be erroneous.
According to information from the Anguilla National Trust,
these nests were found by Clive Smith of White Hill. In
addition they report that according to Dolcin Gumbs of The
Valley, the Cattle Gaulins have been nesting in these trees
for. "over 30 years."
Cattle Egrets nest during all months of the year. In nests
perched in the treetops, Cattle Gaulins lay between two and
four bluish-white eggs. Both parents take care of the eggs
and chicks until they are ready to leave the nest when they
are about 40 days old.
