CCB pledges EC$16,200 to the AFFL
Date Posted: April 23, 2008.
The Caribbean Commercial Bank has been the proud sponsor of
the Anguilla Female Football League (AFFL) since 2004, one
year after the League’s inception. During the past four
years of sponsorship, the Bank has seen the league develop
into a strong band of players. This year, the Bank has
pledged EC$16,200 towards the League’s activities.
The first match of the year was held on Sunday, April 20th
2008 and was preceded by the official opening ceremony. The
ceremony began with the singing of the National Song, led by
AFFL player Ms. Delvina McDonna. Chairman, Mr. Colin Johnson
gave the official welcome which was followed by remarks from
Anguilla Football Association (AFA) President, Mr. Damien
Hughes and Director of Sports, Mr. Alkins Rogers.
Following these remarks, Ms. Cherecia Lewis, CCB
Representative spoke to the young females on the benefits of
becoming involved in football as well the importance of
planning for their future and setting goals.
“As sole sponsor of the AFFL, CCB sees it as its civic duty
to provide guidance wherever possible to the young female
football players. The vast health benefits are only a minute
portion of the advantages that can be gained from playing
football. Many of you will attest to the fact that football
has helped to instill qualities within you that will aid in
your self-development and prepare you for the professional
realm. I too confirm that this sport will help to positively
shape your lives.
Just as football requires the player to strategize well in
order to make goals, ensuring a successful future requires
the implementation of strategies to reach desired goals. If
you are to carry out any strategy successfully, undoubtedly,
you will have to be disciplined, determined and focused.
Along with developing strong, positive attributes, planning
your financial future plays an extremely important part in
helping you to attain your goals. Because we understand the
role that finances play in realizing your dreams, CCB has
provided a financial platform for Anguilla’s youth by
offering them a great opportunity to save through the Young
Investors Club Savings Account”.
Ms. Lewis continued by educating the young ladies on the
benefits of the Young Investors Club Savings Account. In
closing, Ms. Lewis challenged the young ladies to grasp
life’s opportunities.
“I urge you to capitalize on the advantages that football
has to offer, bearing in mind that the lessons you have
learnt and will continue to learn through playing football
is only the beginning of the many lessons that you will
learn along life’s journey. Use these lessons as a pathway
to securing a successful future. I also encourage you to set
financial goals in order to assist you in making your dreams
a reality. I take this opportunity to wish each of you
success in your future endeavors and I wish you the best in
this afternoon’s match”.
The afternoon’s event proceeded with the inspection of the
teams, namely the Youngsters, Superstars, Shining Stars, Lil
Soldiers and Gazelles which was followed by an exciting
match.
CCB looks forward to offering its continued support to the
AFFL.
