Shottaz
stun Hoyas in basketball clash

The boys of the basketball court displayed their skills over
the weekend as the basketball tournament continued. Friday’s
first game saw an intriguing match up between the Police
sponsored Shottaz and the mutant X-men. This game seemed to
revolve around Javelle “Special” Brooks of Shottaz and
Rowemain “Magnito” Carty. The latter mentioned player
dissected the Shottaz defense as he ran through it like it
was Swiss cheese. His arch rival was just as cunning, as he
drove to the hoop like a soaring Eagle. Unfortunately the
X-men mutant powers seemed diminished in the second half as
they acquiesced, handing over victory to the Shottaz. The
scores were Shottaz 96 (Javelle Brooks 33pts), X-men 72 (Rowemain
Carty 34 pts, 2 rebounds).
Friday’s second game was one of flair and poise, as the
Stoney Ground Hoyas played against Overdrive. From the
onset, Ian “Tucker’ Connor took control of the game helping
his point guard make sound decisions. The rebounding
machine, Louise also played a prominent role as he gave the
team a defensive and offensive threat. Despite the second
half fancy no look passes by Otashba “Taba” Connor,
Overdrive could not muster up the game plan to divert the
hungry Hoyas (76 pts Louis 25 pts, 5 rebounds) from
defeating Over drive (71pts ,Otashba “Taba” Connor 19 pts, 5
rebounds).
On Saturday the Overdrive took their frustrations on their
opponents as they scorched Hard Knox. Though the boys from
West End tried to resist, it seemed futile as Trigga could
not the miss the hoop. He scored 23 points to helped power
Overdrive to a 78, 61 over team Hard Knox (Tova King 21
pts). The second game witnessed a clash of the leading
teams. Devoid of the rebounding machine Louis, the Hoyas
played as if they were nervous. Sensing imbalance the
Shottaz pounced on their opponents and establishing a lead
that was never really threatened by the Hoyas. Though Tucker
tried to pull his team back into the game his efforts were
for naught as the Shottaz pulled further away. Saturday’s
defeat by Shottaz (80 pts, Javelle Brooks 22pts) sent Hoyas
(67, Casa 21pts) tumbling to their first defeat of the
season.
Sunday had one lone match as Hard Knox was the recipient of
a defeat courtesy of the X-men. Their resistance levels were
fortified during the first half. However as the vitamin C
levels decreased Hard Knox starting falling behind. At the
end of the game, X-men (66pts, Rowemain Carty 27pts)
defeated Hard Knox (51, Tova King 26pts).
