Samuel Pays Keen Attention to Session on Critiques
of Youth Development Frameworks
Six young persons including the present CARICOM Youth
Ambassadors and Commonwealth Regional Youth Caucus
Representative have begun training geared towards providing
the foundation knowledge and skills needed to function
effectively as members of the National Youth Ambassadors
Corps.
The first phase of the training focussed on knowledge
building. Participants were engaged in sessions on; the
history of Anguilla presented by Mr. Don Mitchell CBE QC;
Governance and it’s implications in a social policy setting
by Dame Bernice Lake QC; Critiques of Frameworks for Youth
Development by Ms. Ijahnya Christian; and Young People,
Human Rights and the Law by Mrs. Chanele Petty-Barrett.
The second phase of the training, which will continue in
April, will focus on the development of specific skills such
as research, public speaking, writing and facilitation that
a critical to their work as ambassadors.
The young persons undergoing training are Ms. Sherri-Anne
Roberts, Mr. Eduardo Samuel, Mr. Andre Samuel, Ms. Jeritza
Samuel, Ms. Sangrena Harris and Ms. Keria Hughes.
Prospective ambassadors were required to undergo a selection
process which included completion and submission of an
application form and interview.
The National Youth Ambassador Corps seeks to create a
structured opportunity for young people to participate in
decision making through involvement on decision making fora,
while at the same time developing their capacity for
leadership. It is a component of the Ministry of Social
Development, Department of Youth and Culture’s ONSTREAM
Programme; an initiative that seeks to systematically
integrate a youth perspective at all levels of decision
making. Other components of ONSTREAM are the National
Conference on Youth and Development and the Department’s
work to develop youth governance institutions such as the
National Youth Council and a youth parliament.
