Basketball
in The Valley
Date Posted: April 02, 2008.
The Valley basketball court was filled with glee as several
exciting games were played during the weekend. On Friday the
mutant Xmen displayed their powers as they ran rough shot
over their opponents Hard Knox. The main scorer for Xmen,
Romaine Carty burnt his opponents as they allowed him to
shoot from his favorite part of the key. The game resulted
in a 58/49 victory for Xmen. In Friday’s second game the
Hoyas lead by the rebounding machine of Louise and the cagey
veteran of Ian “Tucker” Connor, out lasted Over Drive for a
65 to 68 victory. The first three quarters of the game was
dominated by Over Drive. Then like a well oiled machine the
boys from Stoney Ground took charge and stole victory for
themselves.
On Saturday evening, the Shottaz entertained Hard Knox in a
one sided affair. It was evident that nervous energy
inundated team Hard Knox, as they missed the first few shots
of the game. However as the game progressed and adrenalin
subsided, they settled into a groove. Unfortunately Shottaz
lead by Javeel "Special" Brooks continued to apply pressure
and open a ten point lead. As the first half culminated Hard
Knox reduced the deficit to an eight point difference. The
strong bench of Shottaz sealed the fate of Hard Knox.
Shottaz big man, Randy Javois seized control of the
rebounding boards and arrested Hard Knox chance of winning.
Later that evening, the Stoney Ground Hoyas warmed up with a
purpose as they prepared for their encounter with the mutant
Xmen. In the first period, Ian “Ticker" Connor schooled the
Xmen defense in the low post as he often rolled to his left
getting two easy points after the defender over committed.
The game was close from start to finish however the
experienced Ian Connor and the rebounding machine of Louise
brought them through to victory.
On Sunday Shottaz continued their winning ways as they gave
Over Drive a beating that words cannot describe. Lead by the
powers of the amazing Javille “Special” Brooks 22 points and
28 points, Shottaz made a mockery of their opponents as they
out scored and out played their opponents. (The results are
provided in the table)
