Arson, attempted robbery and more in the latest update from the RAPF

The Royal Anguilla Police Force (RAPF) update for the past week were dominated by reports of theft. Police also indicate they are looking for suspects in an attempted robbery in South Hill last Sunday. In addition they've made two arrests in connection with a report of arson in Island Harbour on Wednesday.

The Numbers

Police say thirteen (13) crimes were reported during the specified period - including the Easter holidays, 6 fewer than the previous week. The offences included one (1) report of burglary, ten (10) reports of theft, one (1) report of attempted robbery and one (1) report of arson.

The Details

The crimes occurred in the villages of Island Harbour, The Valley, South Hill,  Long Ground, Statia Valley, Lock Crum Estate, Katouche and West End. In the burglary offence, US $3600.00 was reported stolen from a home in The Valley. In the theft cases the items reported stolen included one (1) pallet blocks, one(1) motor Scooter, two(2) crates of tiles, seven (7) electrical poles, one(1) box nails and an unknown quantity of plumbing pipes.

Attempted Robbery: The report of an attempted robbery came from a home in South Hill at about 7:00pm on Sunday, March 23. Police say the victim of the attempted robbery Mr. J F reported that two men wearing masks and armed with a hand gun entered his home and demanded money. The men reportedly fled the scene after he displayed resistance to their attempts. One of the assailants is said to be 7ft 9inches in height and wearing a navy Blue T –shirt and a short blue jeans pant.

Arson: A silver and grey Ford Escape registration P8486 was extensively damaged by fire on Wednesday, March 26, reportedly as a result of arson. Police say  they received an anonymous call to the Valley Police Station, of the vehicle fire in Island Harbour at about 12:11pm. Officers responded to the scene and  subsequently the fire was extinguished by the Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service.

Mrs. O. A. reported to the police that the vehicle belonged to her husband Mr. C. A. who was not at home at the time, she further stated that she and her four children were at home when she heard a bang, looked and saw someone running from her premises. She saw the vehicle, parked close to her home, erupt on fire and fled her home with her children for safety.

Two persons have so far been taking into custody in relation to the ongoing police inquires into this matter. Traffic Accidents: There were eleven (11) Traffic Accidents recorded between the 19th March and 27th March 2008. The accidents were categorized as ten (10) minor and one (1) serious.
