Digicel
Supports ALHCS Student
Date Posted: March 26, 2008.
(The
Valley, Anguilla) Local mobile telecommunications giant
Digicel has once again shown its commitment to the
educational needs of the Anguillian Community by sending
Shermeka Richardson of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive
School (ALHCS) to Barbados to participate in a six-day
hands-on Hotel Management Workshop with other students in
her class.
With the continued emphasis on Tourism, now is the time to
equip the future generation for an increasingly competitive
and fluid industry. Monies donated by Digicel will be used
to pay for Ms. Richardson’s airfare and accommodations while
she attends the week long class trip from March 31st to
April 5th.
The trip will provide students with the opportunity to
experience life as a tourist and to utilize the knowledge
that they have gained thus far. As part of the program,
students will observe procedures, skills and behaviors in
actual hospitality settings. This experience will assist in
the development of valuable skills to be employed in future
job opportunities.
According to Digicel’s Country Manager, Ms Stephenie Brooks,
“Education is an area that Digicel as a company places an
important emphasis on and we are extremely pleased to have
the opportunity to support this program and more
specifically Ms.Richardson, a student at ALHCS.”
Ms. Brooks also emphasized on the importance of students
having the opportunity to travel saying “these trips lend to
collective and wide-range thinking and
brain-storming sessions that facilitate future successes and
solutions on how to deal with the challenges we face in our
ever changing world.”
Digicel, the fastest growing telecommunications provider in
the Caribbean, is well known throughout the region for
showing support and involving itself in the communities in
which it operates.
