Proctor wins Bronze in U20 High Jump at the Jamaica dominated 2008 Carifta Games.

Date Posted: March 25, 2008.

Over 600 Caribbean Athletes including eleven from Anguilla, assembled in St. Kitts over the Easter weekend to participate in the 2008 Carifta Games. The 37th games were hosted at the Silver Jubilee Stadium from  3/22/2008 to 3/24/2008.

Cited as one of the best development meets in the world, the competition places the regions best junior athletes against each other in a variety of Track and Field events. "We have come a long way since 1972 and we have been able to deliver on a product that everybody wants,” said Keith Joseph, a top athletics official out of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Powerhouse Jamaica led the medal count for the 24th consecutive year with 69 (29 gold, 25 silver and 15 bronze ). Trinidad placed a distant second with 30 medals ( 10 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze) followed by the Bahamas in third place with 23 (8 gold, 3 silver, and 12 bronze).

Anguilla's best result in the competition, came from Ms. Shinelle Proctor whose 1.65m jump was good enough to secure a bronze medal in the girls under-20 High Jump behind Maeva Caracasse of Guadeloupe and Terri Ann Grant of Jamaica.

In most disciplines local athletes devoted their best efforts but fell well short of the standard required to medal.
