Anguillians, breathed a
huge sigh of relief on Saturday after missing fisherman, Sam
Webster was found alive at sea.
On Friday 14th March 2008 at 19:50hrs Police received a
report from Mrs. Judith Webster stating that her Husband Sam
Webster, a fisherman from Island Harbour left for fishing at
05:00hrs that morning, and was expected to
return at 17:30hrs , but failed to do so .
Mr Webster was reported to have left his fishing port of Island Harbour on board his 30ft
open fishing vessel TRY HARD -
registration A30.
A search was commenced for Mr Webster and at about 07:40hrs on Saturday 15th March 2008 the
vessel, Try Hard, was located by some local fishermen from the
Island Harbour community nine (9) nine miles north east of
Scrub Island. At the time the vessel was located there were
no sightings of Mr Webster and the community feared the
worst. The search continued with the Police Department
marine officers, Fisheries Department officers, the Dutch
police helicopter, the Dutch coast guard officers, and
several fishing vessels and fishermen from the Island
Harbour community and throughout the island. At about
14:30hrs, Sam Webster was rescued by the fisheries
vessel Cobra Two eleven (11) miles North East of Scrub
island. He was taken to Island Harbour where he was
transported by ambulance to the Princess Alexandra hospital
for treatment - he was due to be released later today March
19.
According to Mr Webster he was accidentally thrown from his
boat while trying to maneuver around one of his fishing
traps, he managed to stay a float by using two buoys he had
swam to after being ejected from his boat.
