Sponsored ALHCS Sports Day 2008

The Cable & Wireless sponsored Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School
inter-house athletic meet is close to culmination with the annual event
scheduled for Thursday 27 March 2007. As of 3:00pm on Monday afternoon the
points standing was Maroon House 355,
Pink House
336, Yellow 318, Orange 310 and Purple House 273.
The ‘Heats’ which started on 18 February, moved into the more competitive
pre-sports day ‘Events’ on 10 March 2007. The pre-sports day events include high
and long jump for all classes, bicycle race, tug-of-war, shot put, javelin and
the road race slated for Thursday 20 March.
Cable & Wireless which has sponsored the sports day every year since 1999 was
proud to lend its support to this event once again. According to Mr Sutcliffe
Hodge, Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless, ‘sports day is an annual activity
which has always been highly anticipated by the Anguillian public. The energy
and competitiveness that surrounds sports day is exhilarating and for Cable &
Wireless it is important to see our young people engaged in healthy physical
activity and positive competition’.
This year’s sponsorship cost the company USS$4100 which includes the cost of
medals and trophies for the athletes, rental of the PA system, preparation of
the grounds among others costs.
