Announces Honorees For 2008
New York, NY (10 March 2008) Carlson Connor Lloyd the
President of the Anguilla Progressive Association of New
York (APANY) and Allan Rey, Vice President, its Board of
Trustees and elected officers; proudly announce that on the
occasion of its (Twelfth Annual Dinner Dance Gala in
celebration of Anguilla Day in New York on June 7, 2008)
when three prominent Anguillians will be honored.
Carlson Connor Lloyd states: as we honor these individuals,
we honor the best among ourselves.” “We are proud to
acknowledge their outstanding contributions to our beloved
homeland, the island of Anguilla in the northeastern
Caribbean.”
The honorees are: Conrad Walton Fleming, R.L.S (successful
indigenous Anguillian businessman, Founder Manager of
Anguilla Trading Company (first hardware company in Anguilla),
major shareholder Anguilla Great House, Founding Member and
Chairman of the Board of Directors the National Bank of
Anguilla, licensed real estate developer surveyor and civil
engineer who attended the College of the U.S Virgin Islands.
Ms. Evelyn Roper one of Anguilla’s women “freedom fighters”
(whose role included but is not limited to monitoring,
patrolling and “minding” the Sandy Hill beach area) during
the Anguilla Revolution. During her career, she served
twenty-five (25} years as an Auxiliary Staff member of
Cottage Hospital in the Valley, Anguilla.
Ms. Averil Carty affectionately known as “Teacher Averil”
(now retired), served as a Primary School Teacher in the
“Road Primary School” for many, many years. Following her
retirement, Teacher Averil operated an independent
pre-school in her birthplace the picturesque Village of
Sandy Ground. Her contribution to the educational and social
development of Anguilla remains a significant untold story.
The Anguilla Progressive Association of New York (APANY)
mission is to work together collectively for the betterment
of the educational, economic development, health and
wellness, and socio-cultural empowerment of Anguillians at
home and abroad.
