February 28, 2008: During the time spanning February 18th and 27th
, Anguilla recorded sixteen (16) traffic accidents, averaging almost two a day.
Thirteen (13) of the accidents were classified as minor, two (2) as serious and
one was fatal.

The Royal Anguilla Police Force (RAPF) received a report
of a serious traffic accident at approximately 2:17am on the
morning of February 23, 2008, having occurred on the Stoney
Ground main road in the vicinity of Bryan and Sons Grocery.
The accident involved three vehicles; motor car P5938
driven by V.D. of Stoney Ground, motor car P729 driven
by G.S. of Cauls Bottom and Jeep P9549 driven by K.T. of Stoney Ground. Police
report that all of the vehicles involved received damage but
vehicles P729 and P 9549 were extensively damaged.
Consequently, the driver of P729 and P9549 and the passenger
in P729, Mr James Lionel Rogers (Nel), were injured and
transported to hospital for treatment. At 7:32 a.m. Mr.
Rogers succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at
the Princess Alexandria Hospital. The driver of
P729(G.S.) is still detained in hospital, while the driver
of P9549(K.T.) was treated and discharged with minor
injuries.
The driver of Jeep P9549(K.T.) was arrested by police and
charged for Causing Death by Dangerous Driving. He appeared
before the Magistrate court and was granted bail in the sum
of Thirty five thousand dollars ($35,000.00) EC to reappear
in court on 5th May 2008.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the
accident are continuing. |
