Cable &
Wireless announces headline sponsorship for Moonsplash 2008
February 27, 2008: Moonsplash 2008 scheduled to take
place from 27-30 March at the Dune Preserve will continue
its tradition of attracting big names; this year featuring
internationally recognised acts such as Steel Pulse, Taurus
Riley and Anguilla's own Bankie Banx. Chief Executive of
Cable & Wireless Sutcliffe Hodge made the announcement of
the company’s commitment to sponsor for yet another year at
a press briefing held at the main office in Telecoms House
on Tuesday 26 February 2008.

Moonsplash Olaide Banks with members of the press
Also present at the press briefing were Executive Producer
of Moonsplash, Olaide Banks, C&W Corporate Communications
Manager Avon Carty and C&W Marketing Manager, Giesel
Francis. This is the third consecutive year that Cable &
Wireless has agreed to sponsor, the Moonsplash Music
Festival, now in its 18th year.
This year the sponsorship is to the tune of USD $23,000. Mr.
Hodge expressed C&W’s pleasure at being once again able to
provide support to this music festival. He said, “in today’s
age we are finding it difficult to hold on to our culture.
Bankie Banx is trying hard to protect his music and culture
and for this reason we are supportive of his efforts. This
is the third year we have done it and through our help the
festival has grown from strength to strength.”
Olaide Banks thanked Cable & Wireless for supporting
Moonsplash and directly credited the telecommunications
company for the growth of the festival. This sponsorship has
enabled the Moonsplash organisation to attract big names
such as Buju Banton, Joseph Hill and Culture, and Cat Coore
and Third World in past years. He said, “their sponsorship
caused a shift in the quality of the festival and it has
allowed us to maintain our tradition of bringing conscious
reggae to Anguilla. We want people to see the greats of
reggae; to preserve it locally and internationally.”
Olaide indicated that some aspects of this year’s event will
differ from past years. There will be no welcome cocktail
party to kick off the event this year as it will be replaced
with a cultural expo at the Dune Preserve. The Expo will
have local arts and crafts, musicians and food spearheaded
by local chef and owner of Tasty’s Mr. Dale Carty. Another
new dimension is the fact that in the past The Dune was
closed during the day, but this year it will remain open for
concert goers to enjoy. Another interesting aspect of this
year event is that Moonsplash will not coincide with the
full moon. When asked the reason for this, Mr. Banks
indicated that this was due to scheduling conflicts for some
of the artists involved and the time that Easter falls this
year.
Olaide ended the briefing by indicating that Moonsplash is
not a money making endeavour and without the support of
Cable & Wireless, it would be virtually impossible to
produce today. He did say however that any proceeds earned
in the future would be donated to local charities.
Moonsplash is committed to bringing both current and vintage
conscious reggae artists to perform in Anguilla and Cable &
Wireless is proud to support them in this endeavour.
