Banks to captain Leewards team that also includes Montcin Hodge and Chaka Hodge

January 03, 2008: Omari Banks has been named Captain of the  Leeward Islands 14-man squad to play against Jamaica at Sabina Park on Friday, in the side's opening Carib Beer Series match.

All-rounder Banks, who has played ten Tests and five One-Day International (ODI) for the West Indies, was Anguilla’s leading player with  both bat and ball in the 2007 Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) three-day championship scoring 519 runs and taking 41 wickets.

The Leeward Islands squad also features two other Anguillians; Off-Spinner Chaka Hodge who captained Anguilla to its first ever LICA Championship in 2007,  and young former Leewards youth player, Montcin Hodge on his debut appearance for the senior team .

During the LICA championship in 2007, Montcin Hodge was seen as a pillar of consistency for the Anguilla team.  His valuable  patience came to the forefront during a 234 ball 84 against Antigua , a pivotal innings which contributed to Anguilla's 135 run victory, the first ever against Antigua. His superb timing and plethora of shots seemed to have been refined from his recent stint in England.  Another exciting aspect of his game is his fielding; having cat like reflexes, he pounces on any ball in his direction and is capable of exacting direct strikes on  the wicket.

The squad – Omari Banks (captain), Montcin Hodge, Javier Liburd, Steve Liburd, Tonito Willett, Orlando Peters, Maxford Pipe, Lionel Baker, Devon Thomas, Chaka Hodge, Gavin Tonge, Adam Sanford, Anthony Martin.

Coach – John Archibald; Manager – Hugh Gore.
