Anguilla fishing boat owners asked to obtain certificate of registration  before entering St. Martin waters.

Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources Press Release.

January 2, 2008: All fishing boat owners in Anguilla are kindly asked to refrain from visiting St. Martin/St. Maarten without a valid certification of registration for their boats. The French authorities in St. Martin have advised their Anguillian counterparts that all boats entering their maritime space will result in a fine or other penalty if the captain of the boat is not able to produce this document upon request.

A grace period until the end of January 2008 has been granted by the French authorities. All boat captains are kindly asked to ensure that they have a certification of registration on board at all times. All fishing boat owners should note that a Fishing Vessel Licence issued by the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources (DFMR) only grants permission for a vessel to be used for fishing in Anguillian waters and is not a certificate of registration.

Fishing boat owners who frequently visit St. Martin and who are unsure about the registration status of their vessels may visit DFMR’s office at Crocus Hill or may call telephone number 497 2871 / 8705 to make their enquiry.
