The participants
drawn from the Royal Anguilla Police Force, Primary Health
Care Nursing staff, Anguilla Fire Service, Anguilla Red
Cross and other volunteers, were exposed to:
- The recently approved National Policy and Plan;
- Operational procedures for shelter; and
- The Operation Manual itself.
An added component of the course was Basic Radio
Communications, conducted by two disaster management
programme volunteers Keithstone Graves and James Willock who
took the participants through the use of a hand-held radio,
the
ITU phonetic alphabet
and a short practical exercise among other things.
The Department of Disaster Management would like to thank
DFID for their funding of the course.
This is the first of similar training programmes to be
conducted by the department to ensure Anguilla’s
preparedness for disaster events.
