| October 4, 2007:
Cricket officials in Anguilla are reporting that Anguilla,
the once minnow of cricket in the islands, has won the
senior Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) tournament
for the first time ever!
The victory was confirmed after word was received that
Montserrat forfeited their weekend fixture in Anguilla due
to financial constraints. As a result Anguilla's lead is now
insurmountable by Antigua and Barbuda, their closest rivals.
Both teams stood at 45 and 42 points
respectively after last weekend's games.
To celebrate the team’s success the cricket association has
planned a cricket festival for October 7 at Webster Park.
All-rounder Omari Banks was Anguilla’s leading player with
both bat and ball in the three-day championship scoring 519
runs and taking 41 wickets in a team that exemplified, good
captaincy by Chaka Hodge and excellent team spirit. |
