National
Disaster Management Committee requests voluntary island
shutter drill on Friday |
Sept
5, 2007: The hurricane season is now entering what is
generally regarded as the most active phase. So far we have
been spared the ravages of Hurricanes Dean and Felix, but we
must still be conscious of the forecast predictions for the
2007 Hurricane Season. This season is predicted to be a very
active one!

As we enter what
is described as the peak of the Hurricane season, we must
remain vigilant and ensure that our hurricane preparation
does not lapse.
In support of national preparedness, the National Disaster
Management Committee is requesting the public and private
sectors to participate in a drill, on Friday 7 September,
designed to ensure that hurricane shutters are in good
condition and can be readily located and installed. This is
the usual annual drill organised by the Department of
Disaster Management. It is being coordinated by the Ministry
of Infrastructure, Communications, Utilities, Housing,
Agriculture and Fisheries (MICUHAF) and the Department of
Disaster Management (DDM).
All residents, businesses and organizations are encouraged
to take the opportunity, on Friday 7 September, to ensure
that they are able to locate and put up their hurricane
shutters, test their emergency equipment and evaluate their
emergency plans and processes.
Please note this drill is unrelated to any active storm. |
